Troubleshooting Exchange problems
The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.
Cause: This error occurs when the administrator credentials entered while configuring the Exchange server with RecoveryManager Plus is incorrect.
Resolution: Make sure you have entered the correct user name and password of the administrator account.
The remote name could not be resolved: 'outlook.office365.com'
Cause: This error occurs when there is no internet connection.
Resolution: Please check your internet connection and try again.
The remote name could not be resolved: xxx
Cause: This error occurs when RecoveryManager Plus cannot communicate with the Exchange server.
Resolution: Make sure the Exchange server, and the machine in which RecoveryManager Plus is installed are on the same domain. If they're on different domains, make sure a trust has been established between the domains.
507: Insufficient Storage
Cause: This error occurs when the message size limit is insufficient to carry out a restoration.
Resolution: To resolve this issue, change the message limit size in your Exchange server by following the steps listed here.
The mailbox database is temporarily unavailable.
Cause: This error occurs when the mailbox database is offline, corrupt, shutting down, or exhibiting other conditions that makes the mailbox unreachable.
Resolution: Make sure the database containing the mailbox resides is online and can be accessed by RecoveryManager Plus.
The primary SMTP address must be specified when referencing a mailbox.
Cause: This error occurs when there is a change in the primary SMTP address of a mailbox.
Resolution:
- Navigate to Exchange tab → License management in RecoveryManager Plus.
- Click on the Office 365 or On-premises tab based on your Exchange type.
- Click the link (E.g: 450 out of 500) under the Managed mailboxes column.
- In the pop-up that appears, click the Refresh Mailboxes link.
- If the issue still persists, contact support@recoverymanagerplus.com.
500 Internal Server Error
Cause: This is an internal error encountered in Exchange servers.
Resolution:
- Open the CAS/MBX server.
- Open Event Viewer.
- Navigate to Application & Service Logs → MS Exchange Management.
- Check for any warnings and resolve them.
503 Service Unavailable
Cause: This error occurs when the Exchange Information Store service is not running.
Resolution:
- In your Exchange server, open Run, type services.msc and click Enter.
- Find the service named Exchange Information Store, right-click on it and click Restart.
- If the issue still persists, contact support@recoverymanagerplus.com.
Mailbox has exceeded the maximum mailbox size.
Cause: This error occurs when the size of a mailbox message exceeds the allocated size.
Resolution:
- Change the message limit size in your Exchange server by following the steps listed here.
The message exceeds the maximum supported size.
Cause: This error occurs when the item being restored exceeds the maximum size limit supported by the target Exchange server.
Resolution:
- To resolve this issue, increase the message size limit in the target Exchange server by following the steps listed here.
The mailbox that was requested doesn't support the specified RequestServerVersion.
Cause: This error occurs when RecoveryManager Plus attempts to back up a mailbox in Exchange Server 2007.
Resolution:
- RecoveryManager Plus does not support backup and recovery of mailbox items in Exchange Server 2007. For more information on the supported Exchange versions and minimum system requirements required to run RecoveryManager Plus, click here.
An internal EWS error occurred. Please try again.
Cause: This error occurs when RecoveryManager Plus can’t connect to Exchange server.
Resolution:
- Try accessing the mailbox through OWA.
- Check for Server CPU usage and event logs related to Exchange and resolve any outstanding warnings.
The WinRM service cannot process the request because the request needs to be sent to a different machine.
Cause: This error occurs when SSL is enabled for Exchange PowerShell but Basic authentication is not enabled.
Resolution:
- Open IIS (Internet Information Services) Manager.
- In the left-pane, navigate to Sites → Default Web Site > PowerShell.
- Right-click on Basic authentication and select Enable.
- Configure the Exchange server with RecoveryManager Plus. If the issue still persists, contact support@recoverymanagerplus.com.
