Environment

Active Directory

  • Active Directory domain setup based on Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, and 2022.

Note: AD domain setups below Windows Server 2008 are not supported.

On-premises Exchange

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 SP1, 2010 SP2, 2010 SP3, 2013, 2016, and 2019.

Disc space

Disk space Active Directory/Entra ID This requirement varies based on the number of AD and Entra ID objects, the size of your domain controller, and the retention period that you set for your backups. RecoveryManager Plus has a best case compression ratio of 2:1 for domain controller backups.
Microsoft 365 This requirement varies based on the number of backed-up Exchange Online mailboxes, the size of your SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business sites, and the retention period that you set for your backups. RecoveryManager Plus typically compresses backups to a third of their original size. If the total size of the mailboxes, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business sites is 1TB, make sure that you have 1TB of free disk space to store the full backup and all subsequent incremental backups.
Google Workspace/Zoho WorkDrive This requirement varies based on the number of backed-up mailboxes, the size of your Google Workspace user drives and Zoho WorkDrive folders, and the retention period that you have set for your backups. RecoveryManager Plus typically compresses backups to a third of their original size. If the total size of the mailboxes, user drives, and folders is 1TB, make sure that you have 1TB of free disk space to store the full backup and all subsequent incremental backups.

Note: Make sure that you have downloaded the 64-bit version of RecoveryManager Plus if you wish to backup your Exchange and Microsoft 365 environments.

Prerequisites

On-premises Exchange environment

Make sure the following prerequisites are met when you want to configure RecoveryManager Plus to back up your Exchange environment.

  • If RecoveryManager Plus is to be installed in a system running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008, ensure you have Microsoft .NET version 4.5 and PowerShell version 3.0 installed in the system.
    • To check if Microsoft .NET Framework is installed, open Command Prompt from Run. Enter the following command reg query:

      "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\full" /v version

    • Check the displayed version. If the version is below 4.5 or if it’s not installed, install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 from here.
    • To check if PowerShell is installed, type PowerShell from Run. If PowerShell is installed, check for its version number by running the command $PSVersionTable.
    • If the version is below 3.0 or if it is not installed, install PowerShell V 3.0 from here.

Exchange Online environment

Make sure the following prerequisites are met when you want to configure RecoveryManager Plus to back up your Exchange environment.

  • If RecoveryManager Plus is to be installed in a system running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008, ensure you have Microsoft .NET version 4.8 and PowerShell version 5.1 installed in the system.
  • To check if Microsoft .NET Framework is installed, open Command Prompt. Enter the following command reg query

    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\full" /v version

    Check the displayed version. If the version is below 4.8 or if it’s not installed, install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 from here.

  • To check if PowerShell is installed, type PowerShell from Run. If PowerShell is installed, check for its version number by running the command $PSVersionTable.

    If the version is below 5.1 or if it is not installed, install PowerShell V 5.1 from here.

SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business

Make sure the following prerequisites are met when you want to configure RecoveryManager Plus to back up your SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business environment.

  • If RecoveryManager Plus is to be installed in a system running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008, ensure you have Microsoft .NET 4.8 version installed in the system.
  • To check if Microsoft .NET 4.8 Framework is installed, open Command Prompt from Run. Enter the following command reg query

Note: Active Directory, Entra ID, Google Workspace, and Zoho WorkDrive components do not require any specific system requirements prerequisites.
