Backup Settings
The Backup Settings tab lists the entire backup configurations related to domains and domain controllers. You can find the steps to configure backup settings for AD objects and domain controllers below.
Active Directory Objects backup settings
When new domains are added under Account configuration, a corresponding entry is made under Backup Settings.
The Backup Settings tab displays details such as the Domain Name, Selected OUs, Selected Objects, the frequency of full and incremental backups, the status of Force Replication, and the Archive Repository.
To modify the existing backup settings for a domain
- Click the icon in the Action column of the relevant domain.
- In the Select OUs to Backup field, choose to back up all OUs or specific OUs by clicking the icon. From the list displayed, select the desired OUs. You can view the child OUs by expanding the parent OU nodes.
Note: To back up just the contents of the parent OU and not the contents of the nested containers, select the Exclude child OU(s) options located in the bottom-right corner.
- In the Select Object Types to Backup field, click the icon. In the pop-up that appears, select the objects and attributes that you wish to back up.
Note: All custom attributes you have created and those inherited from auxiliary classes will be displayed, and you can easily select them to be included in the backup. If a custom attribute is not displayed, you can search for it by clicking the Add Attributes link and entering the LDAP name of the attribute.
- From the Select Archive Repository drop-down, choose a repository from the list of all available repositories to store backup archives. If no repositories are available, click the icon, then click Yes in the pop-up that appears to add a new repository.
- From the Full Backup Scheduler drop-down, select the frequency at which full backups must be made: either Weekly or Monthly.
- From the Incremental Backup Scheduler drop-down, select the frequency at which incremental backups must be made: Hourly, Daily, or Weekly.
- Schedule the time when backups must be generated in the Select Backup Time field.
- Click Advanced Settings to specify the duration for which you wish to retain deleted AD objects in the Deleted Objects Validity field.
- To back up GPOs using PAExec , check the Use PAExec to Backup GPOs box. If this option is not selected, RecoveryManager Plus will use remote PowerShell commands to back up GPOs. If remote PowerShell commands are restricted in your environment, we suggest enabling this option.
- To restart interrupted backups automatically, select the Auto-restart Interrupted Backup option.
- If you wish to force the replication of all changes made to domain controllers before any backup operation is initiated, select the Force Replication option.
- To include disabled objects in the backup, select the Backup Disabled Objects option.
- Click Save.
