The malware was created by Paras Jha and Josiah White, who offered mitigation services for DDoS attacks on the organizations that their malware attacked.
A Mirai botnet attack starts by first scanning for IP addresses to detect smart devices running on the ARC processor. The malware then exploits any security vulnerabilities in the IoT device to gain network access. If the credentials have not been changed or updated, Mirai can access the smart device and infect it.
