On January 22, 2022, Delta Electronics, a Taiwan-based power supply manufacturer announced that it was a victim of a ransomware attack. In the report, the firm said that the attack has caused no significant impact on the systems.
On January 21, at 6am, the team found that the attackers had infiltrated the servers. Upon detection, the firm immediately activated its protection systems to begin the recovery process. It also mentioned that critical systems were not infected. Conti ransomware group has been identified as the perpetrators. Delta said that it has notified the government law enforcement agencies, and information security units have taken steps to improve Delta's security measures.
However, on January 27, an article released by CTWANT stated that the impact is more serious than Delta disclosed. Around 1,500 servers and 12,000 computers of Delta’s 65,000 devices were encrypted by the hacker group. The ransom demand is estimated to be $15 million for the decryption key and to stop further data leakage. At the time of releasing the report, Delta is still reportedly working with Trend and Microsoft’s security teams to investigate the incident.
