On April 17, 2020, New-Jersey-headquartered IT services giant, Cogniza nt, disclosed on its website that it fell victim to a cyberattack. The attack is believed to be a ransomware attack carried out by the Maze group. Cogniza nt has over 300,000 employees and earns over $15 billion a year in revenue.
The ransomware had disrupted some of Cogniza nt's customer services. The company did not provide information on how many systems were affected, but it said it was working alongside third-party cybersecurity experts on containing the incident.
Cogniza nt is emailing its clients about the breach and providing them with indicators of compromise (IOCs). They have also notified the authorities about the breach. There has been no information on how the attackers managed to infiltrate the company’s network; the Maze group usually accesses the network for weeks and steals the files before disclosing the attack to the victim.
“Although we are in the early stages of assessing this incident, the attack has caused and may continue to cause an interruption in parts of our business and may result in a loss of revenue and incremental costs that may adversely impact our financial results,” the company said in a filing.
