Media Prima, a reputed Malaysian media company that runs numerous radio stations, television channels, advertising firms, and newspapers in Malaysia was hit by ransomware on November 8, 2018. The attackers have demanded a ransom of 1,000 bitcoins, equivalent to USD 6.31 million, to release access to their email system.
Malaysia's financial news outlet, The Edge Markets, reported that the attackers had apparently locked Media Prima employees out of their in-house email system. Media Prima hasn't commented on the cyberattack beyond saying that they've migrated to a new email system. Media Prima has reportedly claimed that they won't pay the ransom.
