On April 3, 2021, the National College of Ireland (NCI) released a notice that it was hit by a ransomware attack. The college has suspended access to its IT systems and classes, and all planned assessments and induction sessions have been postponed to be rescheduled for a later date.
The NCI confirmed that its internal IT team and third-party cybersecurity providers are working to restore services. “We apologise to all users for any inconvenience this may cause and reassure you we are working to restore services. At present we do not have a clear time frame for the full resumption of IT services,” the university said in a statement. The NCI has notified the Data Protection Commissioner; the national police service of the Republic of Ireland, the Gardaí; and other concerned authorities.
