Naming policies are a set of rules that ensure groups are named appropriately and without exposing any business details or personal information.

You can create distribution group naming policies in Exchange Online using the Exchange Admin Center (EAC).

Steps to create a distribution group naming policy in Exchange Online

  1. Log on to the EAC console and navigate to Recipients > Groups
  2. Click Add naming policy to add prefixes and suffixes that are intended to be used to name groups.
  3. Click Add prefix or Add suffix andselect either Attribute or Text, and configure them.
  4. Add text that you want to block from being used in group names and aliases using the options in the Blocked words section.
  5. Click Save to finalize your configurations.
