Configuring RemoteApp Program for Windows Domain Configured as Landing Server

To establish a direct remote connection to the data center configured with landing servers, PAM360 offers the Landing Server feature. This feature automatically launches a direct connection without requiring manual intervention for intermediate landing server hops when configured with a password. For this functionality to work seamlessly with an RDP connection protocol, i.e., when the landing server is a Windows Domain server, you need to configure the ME_AMP_RemoteApp application using the Remote Desktop Services (RDS) on the Windows Domain server.

For detailed instructions on installing RDS and configuring ME_AMP_RemoteApp for landing servers with Windows Domain, follow these outlined steps:

1. Installing ME_AMP RemoteApp on a Landing Server

PAM360 provides a unique application named ME_AMP_RemoteApp to facilitate remote connection from the PAM360 server to other remote resources associated via landing server that use RDP only as the connection protocol (i.e. Windows Domain Server). This application is available for download from the PAM360 console. Follow the below step-by-step instructions to install and configure ME_AMP_RemoteApp on the Windows Domain Server:

  1. Log in to PAM360 and navigate to Admin >> Connections >> Landing Servers.
  2. Download the 32-bit/64-bit software version of ME_AMP_RemoteApp based on the landing server OS architecture.
  3. Transfer the downloaded zip file to Windows Domain Server i.e. the landing server where the ME_AMP_RemoteApp is to be installed.
  4. Extract the contents of the file and initiate the software installation by double-clicking AMP_RDP.msi.
  5. Upon installation, follow the below section for configuring the ME_AMP_RemoteApp program.

2. Configuring ME_AMP_RemoteApp for a Windows Domain Server

  1. Log in to the Windows Domain Server.
  2. Open the Start menu, search for Server Manager, and click on it.
  3. On the Server Manager dashboard, click on Add roles and features.
  4. In the window that appears, click Next to continue the process.
  5. Select the Remote Desktop Services installation option and click Next.
  6. Select Quick Start as your deployment type and click the Next button.
  7. Choose the Session-based desktop deployment option and click Next.
  8. On the 'Select a server' screen, verify your Windows Domain Server name and IP address. Click Next.
  9. On the 'Confirm selections' screen, verify the roles to be installed and select the Restart the destination server automatically if required checkbox.
  10. Click the Deploy button. Upon completion, your Windows Domain Server will restart after the role services are installed.
  11. Open the Server Manager again on your Windows Domain Server.
  12. Click Remote Desktop Services >> Overview >> Collections >> QuickSessionCollection.
  13. In the 'REMOTEAPP PROGRAMS' column, click the Tasks drop-down menu and select Publish RemoteApp Programs.
  14. In the window that appears, select AMP_REMOTEAPP from the list and click Next. If the ME_AMP_RemoteApp is not available in the list, click Add and select the file path where the program is installed.
  15. Confirm if the ME_AMP_RemoteApp is listed and click Publish >> Close.
  16. Next, right-click on the AMP_REMOTEAPP app in the REMOTEAPP PROGRAMS section and select Edit Properties.
  17. In the window that appears, click the Parameters tab and select the Allow any command-line parameters option. Click Apply >> OK.

Now, you have successfully published ME_AMP_RemoteApp as the RemoteApp program on your Windows Domain Server. Henceforth, you can establish a direct remote connection from the PAM360 server to the target resources associated via landing server (Windows Domain Server) that use RDP only as the connection protocol.
