On June 18, 2019, Colorado-based Estes Park Health (EPH) reported that a ransomware attack impacted its network, phone, and email systems. Despite taking measures to contain the attack almost immediately, EPH was unsuccessful in its attempts. In return for the decryption keys, EPH paid the attackers a ransom of $10,000.
On June 2, 2019, EPH's staff noticed abnormalities in their computer system. When they notified the IT department, EPH realized that a ransomware attack had encrypted all files across the network. The software used in the clinic, digital imaging software for storing X-rays and other medical images, was immediately locked down, along with the company’s servers. As soon as the breach was identified, EPH promptly notified its insurance company, plus the FBI and other local law enforcement authorities.
Additionally, EPH sought the help of a third-party cybersecurity forensics firm for damage control. However, to regain access to the encrypted files, EPH had to pay ransom to the attackers.

DataSecurity Plus is an automated ransomware threat identification and mitigation solution that:
Generates real-time alerts when an attempted ransomware attack is detected. The main indicator of a potential ransomware attack is an unusual amount of changes to files and folders. DataSecurity Plus monitors the frequency of file modifications by each user and issues alerts whenever the number of modifications crosses a specified threshold within a set period of time. Every alert also indicates the username, source, date, and time of the incident, as well as other parameters that pave the way for further investigation. Download our free Ransomware Prevention Kit.
Offers a customizable and automated response system to quarantine ransomware attacks. DataSecurity Plus uses a built-in ransomware detection and response mechanism to lock down infected devices and prevent ransomware from spreading to storage devices or network systems. You can also set up your own automated responses, like the execution of a custom script file, to quickly respond to ransomware attack alerts.
