Site based delegation

Site based delegation gives you the option to decide which Domain Controller ADManager Plus must contact first when the help desk technicians perform Active Directory (AD) management operations.Normally when any change is made from ADManager Plus, the Domain Controllers listed in the product under Domain Settings, are contacted one by one in the listed order until an operational DC is found. You can learn more about configuring Domain Settings here.

Let's suppose that you have three Domain Controllers DC-1, DC-2 and DC-3 configured for your domain in ADManager Plus, and the usual order of contact is DC-1, DC-2 and then DC-3. For a particular site you want the product to contact DC-2 first, then DC-3 and DC-1 in case of failure to contact, you can do so using ADManager Plus. If no DCs are selected for site based delegation, the changes performed by the help desk technicians will take place in the order of DCs listed under Domain Settings, and then in the other DCs.

How to perform site based delegation?

    • Start ADManager Plus.
    • Click on the Delegation tab.
    • On the left pane, select Help Desk Technicians and click Site Based Delegation, on the bottom right corner.
    • Select the domain. The left pane has a list of available OUs in the domain and the right pane has a list of configured domain controllers.
    • Select the OU(s) for which you want to set up site based delegation. The corresponding Domain Controllers get listed in the order in which replication takes place. To change the order, select the desired DC, and move it to the required position using the arrow keys present at the top of the right pane.
    • Check the Inherit to Child OUs option if you want the same order of domain controllers for the child OU(s) as well.
    • Once the required order of domain controllers for replication has been set, click Save.
    Note:

If the order of DCs is not configured by the user, it is performed as follows,

    • If the order of DCs is not configured for a child OU, the parent OU's order of DCs is followed.
    • In case the order of DCs for both parent and child OUs are configured, the product contact happens in the order of DCs configured in the child OU.
    • In case both the parent and the child OUs do not have the order of contact for DCs configured, the contact happens in the same order of DCsconfigured in the Domain Settings.
