How to restore your default domain policy using RecoveryManager Plus

Any settings configured in the default domain policy in Active Directory (AD) applies to all user and computer account in the domain, unless these settings are overwritten by other domain GPOs having higher precedence or by GPOs linked to OUs. When unintended changes are made, it is crucial to restore the GPO immediately to prevent interruptions to all users.

This guide will explain how you can restore your default domain policy using RecoveryManager Plus.

  1. Login to RecoveryManager Plus as an administrator.
  2. Navigate to the Active Directory tab > Active Directory Objects > Quick Recovery > Object History.
  3. Select the domain that contains the default domain policy you wish to restore from the drop-down at the top-left corner.
  4. To filter GPOs, simply click on the Total Group Policy Objects tile, or use the Object Type drop-down menu in the table below and select GPO.
  5. Click the Search icon icon to search for the modified default domain policy in the Object Name field and click Apply.

  6. RecoveryManager Plus provides two views for exploring AD GPOs backups.
  7. Clicking the link in the No. of Backups field in the table will open a pop-up displaying both Version View and Attribute View.
    • Version View: This option allows you to select a backup version from all the available backup versions for each object. You can either choose to restore a version completely by selecting the particular version or selectively restore particular attributes from a version.

    • Attribute View: This option allows you to select from the different attributes that each object has had its values modified. The object's attribute is compared with all its previous values for you to pick the best to restore.

  8. Select the default domain policy and click Confirm Restore.
