Did you know?
The most common computer keyboard, the QWERTY keyboard is the epitome of anti-engineering. Jared Diamond in Guns, Germs and Steel explains that QWERTY keyboards were designed to slow down the typing speed because typewriters of the 1800s had the problem of jamming when the typists typed fast.
Despite later improvements in the typewriter's design, the QWERTY keyboard became the gold standard of keyboard templates and here we are now, still stuck with archaic and inefficient ways of keyboarding! |
