How to Change the Existing Server Hostname/IP and Upgrade the OS for Endpoint Central?

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to troubleshoot server hostname changes and OS upgrades in Endpoint Central. Following these steps will help ensure that your Endpoint Central server continues to function properly during these critical changes.

1. Changing the Existing Server's Hostname/IP

If you plan to change the hostname of the server where Endpoint Central is installed, follow these steps to ensure continued proper functioning:

  • Agent Communication: Agents communicate with the server using its internal IP, machine name, FQDN, and NAT name. As long as the agents can connect using any three of these methods, excluding the hostname, there should be no issue with agent-server communication.
  • Reconfiguring the Secure Gateway Server: If you have a Secure Gateway Server, you need to reconfigure it after the hostname change:
    1. Open the <Installed_Dir>\ME_Secure_Gateway_Server\bin directory.
    2. Run

      FSConfigure.bat

    3. Check if the old hostname is still listed. If it is, update it with the new hostname or IP address that you are about to change.

2. Upgrade the OS of the Server

If you are planning to upgrade the OS of the server where Endpoint Central is installed, follow these prerequisites to ensure a smooth process:

  • Protect the Endpoint Central Server Folder: Ensure that the Endpoint Central server folder is not disturbed during the OS upgrade.
  • Stop the Endpoint Central Server: It is recommended to stop the Endpoint Central server before proceeding with the OS upgrade.
  • Backup Before Upgrading: Take a backup of the Endpoint Central server before initiating the OS upgrade and store it on another machine. This precaution will help prevent any potential data loss.
