FAQ's

• Is PXE server a mandatory requirement for OS deployment?It is not mandatory but PXE server is required for remote network boot for offline image creation and deployment and it is a part of the OS Deployer.
• Does OS Deployer support UEFI boot? Yes, OS Deployer supports UEFI boot
• If you replace a machine, can you re-use the licence of the machine that was replaced?OS Deployer's licensing is MAC based. So, the license can not be transferred.
• If the ManageEngine OS Deployer server does not contain NIC drivers for that machine, what alternative is available? If the server does not contain the required drivers, it will be added to the missing drivers list in the product console. You can choose install the missing drivers and add them to the manual driver collection.
• What type of license does OS Deployer provide?OS Deployer supports machine based licenses, i,e license is tied up with the computer's MAC address and it will be calculated based on the MAC address usage. For more details refer our online store at https://store.manageengine.com/os-deployer/
• Is this an add-on product that needs to be purchased or is it included in Endpoint Central?OS Deployer can be purchased separately or as an add-on product in additional to Endpoint Central.
• Can PXE server work across multiple VLANS?PXE can work across multiple VLANS based on your DHCP scope setting.
• How can we create reference (Master) image from a PC with the latest Windows update?You can do it in two ways. By online image creation when the OS is working. And by offline image creation using bootable media.
• Does deployment support x64 and x86 architecture?Yes, deployment is supported for both x64(64-bit) and x86(32-bit) architecture.
• How are different NIC drivers dealt with across various machines and models?You can use Hardware Independent Deployment feature which will help you to create an image from a model which can be deployed to any model by providing the required drivers from the configured (manual or automatic) driver repository (available in the network share)
• Can we use OS Deployer in VMware?Yes. OS Deployer supports VMware provided the drivers required are available in the configured driver repository.
• Can applications be pushed upon the completion of OS deployment?Yes, you can add the applications along with the OS by configuring them in the template (under post-deployment settings) and it will be automatically installed.
• What is AMS?AMS is an Annual Maintenance Support which has to be renewed once a year and the OSD product is a one time purchase.
• Is it necessary to enable multicast in our network while deploying OS on multiple computers?Yes. It is necessary to configure multicast settings in your network when you deploy images in multiple computers via multicast. It is recommended to do it during non-working hours to prevent impact on your on going network activities.
• How many times can I deploy an image to a computer?You can deploy an image that you have created using OS Deployer as many times as you want.
• WinPE installation is a tedious and time consuming process. How can I simplify it using OS deployment?WinPE can be installed automatically from our OSDeployer product console.
• Can I shrink the disk partitions before imaging?Yes. You can shrink partitions before imaging.
• Can we use 'SysPrep' with OS Deployment?We support the necessity of 'SysPrep' imaging through post deployment process. If you use Generate New SID option, then you don't need to perform 'SysPrep/ in your machine.
• Does OS Deployment support Computer specific settings for post deployment activities?Yes, our product supports computer specific settings. This preference can be configured in the template settings.
