Data Breach

Mitsubishi Electric reveals a data breach incident.

On January 20, 2020, Mitsubishi Electric, a Japan-based manufacturer of electrical and electronic products, revealed that a data breach in 2019 may have exposed personal and corporate information hosted on the company's servers.

The incident

Although the breach occurred on June 28, 2019, the company confirmed the breach only after local newspapers released the news. According to published articles, the Chinese hacker army known as Tick is suspected to be involved in the attack. The intrusion was detected after Mitsubishi Electric staff found a suspicious file on one of the company's servers in China.

The company estimates that around 200MB of data, including employment application information on 1,987 people, employee information on 4,566 people, and information on 1,569 retired employees of affiliated companies has been compromised in the attack. The authorities and affected customers have been notified about the breach.
