German internet service provider CITYCOMP affected by ransomware.

On May 1, 2019, German-based internet service provider CITYCOMP Service GmbH, announced that it was a victim of a cyberattack. The compromised information included customer email addresses, telephone numbers, asset lists, payroll records, project sheets, account statements, and other sensitive information.

The incident.

In April 2019, unknown attackers hacked the ISP's systems and threatened to publish client information if CITYCOMP did not pay a ransom of $5,000. Since the ISP did not comply with their demands, the cyberattackers published the financial and private information of clients online. Some of the affected clients included global giants like Porsche, Oracle, Toshiba, and others. CITYCOMP received help from the State Criminal Police Office of Baden-Württemberg and an external cybersecurity team to implement additional security measures. CITYCOMP also notified all the affected clients regarding the breach.
