In September 2020, Texas-based software company, Tyler Technologies, acknowledged that it was hit by a ransomware attack. The company offers technology services for court management systems, payroll, human resources, and tax management for state and local governments. Some governments also use its platforms to post election data online.
As soon the attack was detected, the firm notified its clients by email that it had experienced a “security incident involving unauthorized access to [its] internal phone and information technology systems.” Some of its customers have reported suspicious logins occurring after the attack, and they have been urged to change their passwords. The company did not disclose if there has been a ransomware demand. The firm in the process of attempting to restore its systems, and law enforcement has been notified.
