Though the school district hired a third-party forensics company to restore access to the system, it was unsuccessful. In the end, they agreed to the ransom demand in exchange for decryption keys. Having been insured in case of events like these, Wyoming Area School District was able to claim $28,000 as insurance damages. School officials are working on improving the security system to prevent future attacks.
