How to create a team template from an existing team in the Microsoft Teams admin center
Microsoft Teams allows you to create team templates, streamlining the process of setting up new teams with predefined structures and configurations. By leveraging existing teams as templates, you can replicate successful setups, ensuring consistency and saving time on repetitive tasks.
To create a team template from an existing team,
- Log in to the Teams admin center.
- On the left-hand side, navigate to Teams > Team templates.
- Click Add.
- Select Use an existing team as a template, and click Next.
- Begin by selecting the team you wish to use as a starting point. Simply navigate to the team name and click Next to proceed.
- In the Template settings section, fill out the following fields and click Next:
- Template name
- Template short and long descriptions
- Locale visibility
- In the Channels, tabs, and apps section, include the necessary channels and apps for your team:
- Click Add in the Channels section.
- Provide a name for the channel in the Add dialog.
- Include a description.
- Determine if the channel should be displayed by default.
- Search for the desired app to be added to the channel.
- Click Apply when finished.
- Click Submit to save your changes
Your newly created template is now visible in the Team templates list. You can utilize this template to establish a team within Teams.
