How to update an existing dynamic group rule in Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory)

Updating an existing dynamic group in Microsoft Entra ID requires a rule builder in the Azure portal. The rule builder supports up to five expressions, and you can use the text box to add more than five expressions.

Steps to create a group membership rule in Microsoft Entra ID

  1. Sign in to Microsoft Entra ID as at least Groups Administrator.
  2. Go to Groups > All Groups .
  3. Select the group you want to update and open its profile.
  4. In the profile page, select Dynamic membership rules. This will open the rule builder.
  5. The rule builder supports up to 5 expressions, and to add more, you can use the text box.
  6. To view the custom extension properties available for your membership rule, select Get custom extension properties , enter the Application ID, and select Refresh properties.
  7. Click Save after updating the rule.
