If a user's Microsoft 365 account is deleted, their OneDrive files can be preserved for a specific period of time. All you need to as an admin is mention the number of days you want to retain them for and you're all done!
Follow the simple steps given below to set retention time for your users' OneDrive accounts:
- Sign in to the OneDrive admin center as a global or SharePoint admin.
- Select Storage in the left pane.

Enter the number of days you want to retain OneDrive files in the Days to retain files in OneDrive after a user account is marked for deletion.
Note: This setting takes effect for the next user that is deleted and users who are in the process of being deleted. The count begins as soon as the user account is deleted in Microsoft 365, even though the process of deletion takes time.
- Click Save.
