Data Loss Prevention in Microsoft Teams
Data Loss Prevention (DLP) in Microsoft Teams detects sensitive information such as a user's social security number, credit card number, etc., shared through private chats, channel conversations and files. This is achieved by carrying out a deep content analysis which uses keyword matches, dictionary matches, evaluation of regular expressions, internal functions, and other methods to detect the content that matches the configured DLP policies. A DLP policy can identify, monitor, and automatically protect the sensitive data being leaked.
To customize a DLP policy using the Security & Compliance Center:
- Navigate to Data loss prevention > Policy.
- Select a policy, and next to the Policy settings, choose Edit. Either create a new rule, or edit an existing rule for the policy.
- In the User notifications tab, select Customize the email text or Customize the policy tip text or both.
- Specify the text you want to use for email notifications or policy tips, and click Save.
- Now, in the Policy settings tab, click on Save to enforce the policy.
Note: It takes approximately one hour for the changes to be applied.
