MDM Profile Installation Failed

Problem

You have scanned the QR Code and successfully downloaded the MDM Profile. However, when attempting to install the MDM Profile on your device, you encounter the error message indicating "Profile Installation Failed."

Cause

The error "Profile Installation Failed" will be shown if the profile is not installed within 8 minutes or the profile installation is failed due to any other reasons:

  • Network Issues: Interruptions in network connectivity during the installation process can prevent the profile from being installed correctly within the time frame.
  • Permission Issues: Insufficient permissions or restrictions on the device may prevent the MDM Profile from being installed properly such as Stolen Device Protection.

Resolution

    1. Network Issues: Verify your network connectivity and proceed with the following steps to enroll your device.

      Enrollment Steps: To resolve the "Profile Installation Failed" error after successfully downloading the MDM Profile, follow these steps:

        1. Navigate to Settings: Go to the device's Settings menu.
        2. Locate the MDM Profile: Look for the downloaded MDM Profile under the section named "VPN & Device Management" or a similar category where device management profiles are listed.
        3. Install the MDM Profile:Tap on the MDM Profile to open its details. Follow the prompts to install the profile on your device. You may need to enter your device passcode or authentication details as required.
        4. Complete Device Enrollment: Once the MDM Profile installation is complete, it will initiate the enrollment process automatically or as per the configuration set by your organization. If prompted, follow additional on-screen instructions to finalize the device enrollment process.
    2. Permission Issues: If Stolen Device Protection is enabled, you may encounter this error.

Stolen Device Protection: Stolen Device Protection is an Apple feature that prevents changes to critical security settings, such as passcodes and installing MDM profiles, for one hour when executed from an unfamiliar location. To proceed with enrollment, wait one hour, and you will receive a notification when you can continue.

To enable or disable Stolen Device Protection, follow these steps:

      1. Go to Settings and tap Face ID & Passcode.
      2. Enter your device passcode.
      3. Tap Stolen Device Protection, then turn it on or off.
