Unable to add work profile

Problem

Encountering the message "Unable to add work profile" when trying to scan a QR Code or open an Enrollment URL usually points to various potential issues concerning device storage, existing work profiles, or device compatibility with work profiles.

Cause

The error might be due to one of the following reasons:

Resolution

    1. Insufficient Storage: The device may not have enough available storage space to create a new work profile.

      Solution:

      Clear some space on the device by deleting unnecessary apps or files. A minimum of 3GB of free space is typically required for setting up a work profile.

    2. Existing Work Profile:There may already be an active work profile on the device, which prevents the addition of a new one.

      Solution:To verify and remove the existing work profile:

      1. Open the device's Settings.
      2. Navigate to Accounts.
      3. Look for any existing work profiles.
      4. If a work profile is present, select it and choose the option to Remove Work Profile.
      5. After removing the existing work profile, attempt to add the new work profile again.
    3. Unsupported Device for Work Profile: The device may not be compatible with creating a work profile according to Android Enterprise Recommended (AER) guidelines.

      Solution:

      Ensure that the server's IP address and FQDN are publicly mapped and accessible :

      1. Verify the device compatibility using tools like TestDPC (Device Policy Controller).
      2. Ensure the device is on the Android Enterprise Recommended (AER) device list.
      3. Ensure the device meets the necessary requirements for creating and managing a work profile as per organizational policies.
