Description | A session was disconnected from a Windows Station |
If a user disconnects from an existing Terminal Services session, or switches away from an existing desktop using Fast User Switching, event 4779 is generated. This event is also triggered when a user disconnects from a virtual host.
This log provides the following information:
- Account Name
- Account Domain
- Logon ID
- Session Name
- Client Name
- Client Address
Why does event ID 4779 need to be monitored?
- To monitor specific sessions when Fast User Switching is disabled
- To monitor connections when remote desktop connections are not allowed for certain users
- To keep an eye on the internal IP addresses list
- To monitor actions of high value accounts
- To detect anomalies and malicious actions
- To ensure non-active, external, and restricted accounts are not used
- To ensure that only white-listed accounts perform certain specific actions
- To enforce conventions and compliances
