How to migrate ADManager Plus from 32-bit to 64-bit in the same server

To migrate ADManager Plus from the 32-bit version to the 64-bit version, you need to take a backup of the product, install the 64-bit version of ADManager Plus, and then restore the backup to this new instance.

Note:
  • Upgrade the current instance (32-bit version) to the latest version using the service pack, and then make a backup.
  • Do not uninstall the 32-bit version until the new 64-bit version works fine and you're able to restore the data.

Steps to migrate ADManager Plus from 32-bit to 64-bit in the same server

  1. Stop ADManager Plus (Click Start > All Programs > ADManager Plus > Stop ADManager Plus).

Note: If you installed ADManager Plus as an NT Service, stop the service (Start > Run > type services.msc > Stop ManageEngine ADManager Plus).

  2. Open the Command Prompt (run as an administrator) and navigate to <installation dir>\ADManager Plus\bin. Execute the backupDB.bat file to make a backup of your existing database (DB).

Note: A folder named Backup will be created under <installation dir> (e.g., C:\Program Files\Manage Engine\ADManager Plus), which will contain the DB in compressed file format (e.g., OfflineBackup_20230215191814.ezip).

  3. Make a copy of the customer-config.xml file present in <installation dir>\ADManager Plus\conf.
  4. Open File Explorer. In the menu bar, click View > Show > select Hidden items. Now, go to C:\Program Files(x86)\InstallShield Installation Information. Rename the following folder, {CC00BC3F-40AE-49A7-BA63-FE2F93D20585}, to {CC00BC3F-40AE-49A7-BA63-FE2F93D20585}_bak.
  5. Download and install ADManager Plus (64-bit) on the same server.

  6. Once the product is installed, do not start the product.
  7. Replace the customer-config.xml file in <installation dir\conf> with the one you copied from the old instance.
  8. Copy the DB backup in the backup folder of the old instance (<installation directory>\ADManager Plus\backup) and paste it in the bin folder of the new instance (<installation dir>\ADManager Plus\bin).
  9. To restore the DB backup, open the Command Prompt (run as an administrator) and navigate to <installation dir>\ADManager Plus\bin. Run the batch file, restoreDB.bat, from the Command Prompt with the compressed file format (e.g., restoreDB.bat OfflineBackup_20230215191814.ezip -p).
  10. When you are prompted to enter a password, copy the value of the crypt tag from the customer-config.xml file of the old instance and paste it.
  11. Once this is done, start the product.
