How do I install the Microsoft Access Snapshot Viewer silently?

Description

This document provides steps required to install the Microsoft Access Snapshot Viewer silently. There is a bug that does not allow Microsoft to install the Snapshot Viewer silently. Microsoft has provided a hotfix which allows the silent switches to work.

Steps

To install the Microsoft Access Snapshot Viewer silently, you must complete the following tasks:

  • Download and put the executable file in the network share repository
  • Add the package and deploy it

To download and put the executable file in the network share repository, follow the steps given below:

  1. Request for the hotfix for this application from http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=885883&kbln=en-us

    Note: You will receive the a password through an e-mail message from Microsoft.

  2. Extract the .zip file to a folder using the password

    Note: The extracted folder contains a file named snpvw.exe.

  3. Extract the files from snpvw.exe to a folder using the /C and /T switches. For example, snpvw.exe /C /T:"C:\Extracted"
  4. Copy the extracted files to the network share repository as configured in Software Deployment

You have now extracted the required files and put them into the network share repository. Your executable file is ready. You are now required to add a package from the product web console.

To add the package and deploy it, follow the steps given below:

  1. Click the Software Deployment tab
  2. Click Add Package
  3. Choose MSIEXEC/EXE/ISS/Command
  4. Enter the name of the application
  5. Select Network Path
  6. In the Installation Command with Switches/Arguments section, browse for the setup.exe file in the folder in which it was extracted
  7. Specify the silent install switch as /QNT
  8. Click Add Package
  9. Select the package that you added
  10. Click Install/Uninstall Software
  11. Select the required computers
  12. Click Deploy

You have deployed the package to install Microsoft Access Snapshot Viewer silently.

The settings will reflect in the client computers during the agent's 90-minute refresh cycle, during startup or during logon—whichever takes place earlier.
