Patch Installation - "Fatal Error during Installation"

Problem

You are trying to install patches but you get an error message - "Fatal Error during installation".

Cause

This may be due to the following reasons

  1. Application is running in the background during installation. Eg : Deploying Google Chrome patch when Chrome processes are running on the client machine.
  2. Errors specific to some patches.

Resolution

Try redeploying the update at System Startup

If problem persists, contact support with the following logs:

  1. If you get this error message while trying to install a Non-Microsoft patch manually, then send the failure message screen shots.
  2. If you get this error message while trying to install a Microsoft patch, then verify the %windows%\KB******.logs and upload the same.
  3. Upload the Agent logs pertaining to the computers where the patch is being installed along with the screenshots of manual installation, if the startup configuration fails.
