Working with Endpoint Central

Starting Endpoint Central

  • You can start Endpoint Central directly by navigating to the Start button --> Services.msc. Right click on Services.msc and choose Run as Administrator.
  • Search for ManageEngine UEMS-Server --> Right click on it and choose to start the service.

You can also start the Endpoint Central server in any of the below mentioned ways also:

  1. Double-click the ManageEngine Endpoint Central icon from the desktop.
  2. Select Start --> Programs --> ManageEngine Endpoint Central --> Start Endpoint Central.

Starting the Endpoint Central automatically launches the client in the default browser.

Note: When Endpoint Central is started in Windows XP / Windows 2003 machines with firewall enabled, Windows will pop up security alerts asking whether to block or unblock the the following programs:

  1. Postgres - Database server
  2. Java(TM) 2 Platform Standard Edition binary - Java.

You should Unblock these programs to start Endpoint Central.

Starting Endpoint Central Client

  1. Open a JavaScript-enabled Web Browser. For example, Microsoft Edge.
  2. Type http://localhost:8020 OR http://Host Name:8020 in the address bar and press "Enter".
    Note: By default, Endpoint Central runs on port 8020.
  3. In the login page enter a valid user name and password. This provides an authenticated access to Endpoint Central. By default, the user name and password are "admin" and "admin" respectively.
  4. Click "Login".
  5. The Endpoint Central Client is launched in the Web browser.

Steps to be Performed after Initial Login

  1. Define the scope of management - Scope can be limited to a small set of computers or the whole domain
  2. Setup Software Deployment
  3. Setup Patch Management
  4. Setup Mobile Device Management
  5. Setup Asset Management
  6. Setup User Logon Reports
  7. Define and apply configurations to either users or computers. The configurations will get applied during user logon / computer startup or during the 90 minutes refresh cycle, whichever is earlier,
  8. View the status if the configurations applied to the users/computers.

Stopping Endpoint Central

To stop Endpoint Central, Navigate to Start button --> Services.msc. Right click on Services.msc to run as administrator. Next search for ManageEngine UEMS Server and right click on Stop Service option. OR Select Start --> Programs --> ManageEngine Endpoint Central --> Stop Endpoint Central OR execute the command "DCService.bat -p" in the location <DesktopCentral_Home>/bin directory.
