Managing Android Devices using Android Device Policy app

Google has provided Android Management API (Android Device Policy app) that enables mobile device management (MDM) solutions to manage Android devices effectively. In this setup, devices will be enrolled using the Android Device Policy app which is more streamlined for end users setting up their devices. Mobile Device Manager Plus's support for Android Management API makes it an ideal solution for IT Administrators looking to streamline their device management processes and improve the security and compliance of their Android devices.

Prerequisites

  1. Managed Google Play should be configured with a non-Google Workspace account.
  2. Devices to be managed using Android Device Policy should be running Android 6.0 and above.

Enroll devices using Android Device Policy app

  1. On the MDM console, navigate to Enrollment > Enrollment Settings.
  2. Select Enroll Android devices using Android Device Policy App.
  3. Click on Save.

Once the Android Device Policy App has been set up for enrollment, you can send enrollment invites to Android devices. The users have to enroll the device by following the steps mentioned on the invite. Here Android Device Policy app will be installed on the devices to manage them. Once the device has been enrolled, you need to sync the device by navigating to Device Mgmt > Managed Google Play > Sync.

Note:
Android Device Policy will block the usage of a device or work profile immediately if it fails to comply with the below policy settings.
Passcode: After a certain number of failed passcode attempts, the admin can choose to either block the device or completely wipe it based on the specified number of days.

App Management

Supported Profiles

The list of profiles supported for devices enrolled using the Android Device Policy app:

  1. Passcode: Defines parameters about creating a password to unlock the devices.
  2. Restrictions: Restrictions and permissions related to device functionality, security, apps etc.
  3. Workspace Security: Configure proactive security restrictions to protect your organization's data on the Work Profile.
  4. Wi-Fi: Configure Wi-Fi and proxy settings for devices to connect to a secure Wi-Fi network.
  5. VPN: Configure VPN settings to securely access corporate data from the devices.
  6. Certificate: Configure Certificate profile to push CA certificates to the managed devices.
