Getting started: Visualizing your network environment

Whenever devices are discovered in OpManager, they will be classified based on the default device templates and listed in the Inventory tab. The Inventory view gives you a comprehensive visibility on details such as DNS name, IP address, Category, Type, health status and other custom field values of the devices in your network.

Apart from the Inventory view, OpManager provides in-depth visibility into the overall network health and performance with the help of the following features.

Dashboard

OpManager's dashboard is a centralized platform that enables you to view the most relevant network monitoring data as per your preferences. The dashboard comprises multiple widgets that are customizable. Each widget displays a particular monitoring information.

OpManager has certain default dashboard types such as an Enterprise Dashboard, a Real-time dashboard and dedicated dashboards to view Server/Storage/Virtualization/Network related monitoring information.

Apart from the default dashboards, users can construct custom dashboards with selected widgets based on their criticality and business needs.

NOC view

The NOC view enables the network operations center team to centrally monitor your entire network.

By creating a NOC view you can select a combination of dashboards (particularly dashboards that cover critical information) and view the dashboards one after the other, alternatively, at regular intervals.

Maps

While dashboards helps you to visualize an entire network in a single console, Maps helps you visually place the devices distributed geographically on an actual map's interface.

You can populate the devices on a Google map or a Zoho map and visualize the network sites. You can visualize your virtual network using a map and understand the topology of Host to VMs, Host to network, Host to Datastores and more.

This map visibility allows admin teams to monitor overall health of enterprise network, locate faulty network sites and take actions to resolve them.

Layer 2 Maps

Layer 2 maps, as the name suggests, enable IT admins to discover and automatically create a topology map of the parent and child devices connected to a seed router.

The network admin does not need the IP details of all the devices to create this map. By simply specifying the core router IP address, OpManager will create a map and gives a topology view of the network.

Business view

When you have a distributed network to be monitored, the Business view feature can come in really handy. Using this feature, you can visualize the devices on customized backgrounds to get complete visibility into the health status of devices, interfaces or individual sites and traffic between the nodes.

Tool to visualize data center: 3D Rack View and Floor View

You can replicate your data center visually with OpManager's 3D Rack View and Floor view, which enable you to get a three-dimensional visibility of your data center environment. You can simply drag and drop the devices to the racks and arrange the racks on floor views.

Groups

OpManager enables you to group devices or interfaces to simplify network management and push configuration changes globally. Groups can also be beneficial for monitoring multiple network sites. You can group devices based on each network location and troubleshoot issues at a particular network site.

Note: Similar to the regular filters like category, time, etc., users can use Business Views and Groups to filter the devices in a widget or while creating a report.
