How to Append numbers to logon names in case of duplicates

Objective: Avoid duplicate logon names while creating new user accounts by appending a number to the logon names if the provided logon name already exists.

Solution: Using, ADManager Plus, you can automatically append a number to the logon names in case of duplicates using 2 steps:

• Step 1: Configure settings for managing duplicates using user creation template
• Step 2: Create a user by applying the user creation template

Step 1: Configure settings for managing duplicates using user creation template

1. Login to ADManager Plus.
2. Go to Management → User Management → User Templates → User Creation Templates.
3. Click on Create New Template.
4. Specify a name for the template, key in a suitable description and select the Domain.
5. Select Enable Drag-n-Drop. Place your mouse pointer next to the Logon Name and click Edit.
6. Under Prevent Duplication, select Check for duplicates at Domain/Forest level.
7. Select 'Automatically append numbers from' option and specify the starting number in the text box.
8. Click the Advanced Settings to customize it further. Click Done.
9. Click Save Template.

Step 2: Create a user by applying the user creation template

• Click on Management.
• Goto User Management → User Creation → Create Single User or Create Bulk Users, as required.
• Select the Domain and select the template that we created above using the Select Template option.
• Enter the values for all the required attributes for all the user accounts to be created or import this information via a CSV file.
• Select the required container.
• Click on Create Users to create the required user accounts without any duplicates.
