Delete empty active directory groups

Objective : Delete empty active directory groups

Solution : ADManager plus allows empty groups report to be generated and removed manually or through automation.

Steps to remove empty groups manually.

1. Click Reports tab.
2. Click Group reports, under Member-based Reports, select Groups without Members.
3. Select the desired domain(s) and select OUs if necessary. Click 'Generate'.
4. Select the group(s) which you want to delete and click 'Delete'. Another way to delete empty groups in bulk is by selecting More Actions Check All Action Delete Groups.

Steps to remove empty groups using automation

1. Click Automation.
2. Enter a suitable 'Automation Name' and 'Description' in the text box provided.
3. In Automation Category, select Group Automation from the drop down list and select the domain. If necessary, select the OU from the 'Add OUs' section.
4. In Automation Tasks/Policy, select Delete Groups.
5. Select 'Implement Business Workflow' if deemed necessary. Please find more information about Business Workflow here.
6. Under Select Objects, choose Groups without Members in 'From Report' section. Add Conditions if necessary to refine results. Click 'OK'.
7. Specify the time/interval at which the task should be run in the 'Execution Time' section. Click 'Save'.
