How to set the account expiration date of Active Directory (AD) user accounts using a CSV file

Objective: To update the account expiry date of AD users using a CSV file.

Solution:

ADManager Plus enables you to modify the attributes of multiple Active Directory (AD) users in one go, by importing a CSV file that contains the required user details. You can use a CSV file to set or modify AD attributes such as account expiry date of user accounts.

Rules for creating a CSV file for modifying the account expiry date of users:

  1. The first row of the CSV file must contain the LDAP headers of the AD attributes whose values you wish to set. To view a complete list of all the LDAP headers that can be specified in a CSV file for user creation or modification, click here.
  2. Each successive row is a user record that contains the values for the respective LDAP headers.
  3. The account expiration date for each user must be listed under the accountExpires CSV header. The date must follow the MM-DD-YY format. For instance, if the account expiration date of a user is 31st July, 2019 then it must be listed as 07-31-2019.
  4. Specify the sAMAccountName of the user and set the account expiry date, by entering the appropriate accountExpires attribute value in the CSV file.

Steps to set or modify the account expiry date of users:

  1. Logon to ADManager Plus and click on the Management tab.
  2. Navigate to the User Management section or CSV Import section, and click on Modify Users.
  3. Select the Domain in which you wish to modify the users.
  4. Click on the Import option and specify the CSV file.
  5. Click on OK.
  6. Once all the users and their attributes are listed, select the users that you wish to modify.
  7. Click on the Update in AD option.
  8. In the Select Attributes window that pops-up, select accountExpires attribute and other attributes that you wish to modify.
  9. In the same window, click Show, and select the attributes using which the users must be located in AD.
  10. Configure Advanced Options such as clearing the value of the attribute in AD, if its value in the CSV is empty, and more.
  11. Click on OK.
