Installation of agents
Agent installation can be done in three ways. These include the following :
- Installing agents manually
- Installing agents using GPO
- Installing agents from web console
Installing agents manually
Creating agent for every customer is the fundamental step and this agent should be installed in all the managed computers in customer's network.
- Navigate to Customers from the Admin tab.
- Click Create Agent against the corresponding customer.
- This will open the window for adding remote office.
- Follow these steps to add a remote office :
- Provide a remote office name for this customer.
- If you have configured UEM Central MSP server as an edge device, provide NAT details.
- Select the communication type and select/create replication policy.
- Direct Communication - If WAN agents communicate with UEM Central MSP server directly
- Through Distribution Server - If WAN agents communicate with UEM Central MSP server through Distribution Server. Specify details such as domain name of the computer where Distribution Server will be installed, name of the computer and IP address.
- The communication between UEM Central MSP server and distribution server is secured using HTTPS communication.
- If the remote office computers connect to the internet through a proxy server, enable Proxy Configuration and specify the details.
- Upon clicking Add, the remote office will be added.
- Download the agent by clicking on the download icon against the corresponding remote office in which you want to install agents. For example, assume that you have two remote offices named Remote Office 1 and Remote Office 2. If you want to install an agent in Remote Office 2, then click the Download Agent link and then click Remote Office 2.
- Copy the downloaded zip file to any computer residing in the remote office and extract the zip file to a directory.
- Edit computernames.txt file and add the names of the computers in which the agent needs to be installed.
- Execute setup.bat from the following folders and follow the instructions for installation of WAN agents -
- Direct communication - <Extracted_Dir/directsetup>
- Through Distribution Server - <Extracted_Dir/dssetup>
Installing agents using GPO
You can install an agent in your client computer using GPO. This is done by running a script in multiple client computers by adding the start up script to the Active Directory. For more information, refer Installing UEM Central MSP agents using GPO.
Installation of agents from the web console
Distribution server helps in bandwidth optimization. Distribution server located in the remote office synchronizes with the UEM Central MSP server located in your network at specific time intervals.
Note: This method of agent installation is applicable only when the agent communication is through Distribution Server.
- Perform the following steps for installation of agents while defining the scope of management :
- Navigate to Admin tab -> Scope of Management (SoM) -> Computers -> Add Computers.
- Specify the AD connector : AD connector is a distribution server that can reach or access the domain controller of your enterprise to parse the entries in Active Directory. Select the distribution server that is connected to the same network as that of your domain controller.
