Introducing PAM360 Agent

PAM360 agents are lightweight software components deployed on endpoints or servers, either within an organization’s internal network or in external environments that are not directly connected to the network where the PAM360 server is deployed. These agents act as secure intermediaries between the endpoints and the PAM360 server, ensuring encrypted communication and seamless execution of privileged management tasks.

By leveraging PAM360 agents, administrators can extend secure control and automation to remote machines, regardless of their location. The agents enable critical operations such as password resets for local accounts, execution of privileged tasks, and other management activities that require a trusted channel of communication with the PAM360 server.

This comprehensive guide helps users understand the benefits of the PAM360 agent, its communication process with the PAM360 server, and the steps to download it.

Caution

  • Agent Support Update: From build 5711 onwards, PAM360 will no longer support the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the C++ agent for Windows and Windows Domain systems, nor the C agent for Linux. However, these agents will remain functional in older PAM360 versions. It is highly recommended to use Windows, Windows Domain, and Linux agents on the machines for additional features like password reset listeners, dynamic account filtering, self-service privilege elevation, and Zero Trust implementation. Refer to the forum post to learn more about the end-of-support announcement.
  • Linux Agent Applicability: From build 5301, the AMD64 version is supported for Ubuntu, CentOs, RedHat, Debian, and other Linux flavors, and the ARM64 version is supported for RedHat.
  • Windows Agent Applicability: PAM360 agent will work only on Windows OS versions: Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server 2016 & above.
  • Automatic Upgrades: Starting from build 7500, PAM360 agents (Windows, Windows Domain, and Linux) will be automatically upgraded upon PAM360 version upgrades. However, this capability will not be applicable to MacOS agents.

Communication Between PAM360 Server and Agent

Additional Detail

Since the tasks are triggered by the web server only upon contact from the agent, the time taken for successful task execution will depend on how quickly the agent can connect with the PAM360 web server.

Downloading the PAM360 Agents

The agent package is available for download through the PAM360 web interface and it includes the necessary executable and configuration files along with an SSL certificate for secure HTTPS communication between the agent and the PAM360 web server. To download the PAM360 agent:

  1. Navigate to Admin >> Agents and select the agent packages available for the following operating systems. (Windows/Windows Domain/Linux/macOS)
  2. In the pop-up that appears, copy the Agent Key using the copy icon beside it. This Agent Key is necessary to install the PAM360 agent in the target system and it can be used one time only. Once the Agent Key is supplied for an installation, it will become invalid.
  3. To keep the agent key in active status for a longer period, select the option Allow the key to be active for: X hours and specify the number of hours. Now, the same Agent Key can be used for any number of agent installations within the specified time.

Caution

Do not share the agent installation key as it might cause the unauthorized use of the agent.
