What is the difference between managed and unmanaged servers?

Managed vs Unmanaged servers

In Exchange Reporter Plus, a managed server is an Exchange Server that is currently being monitored by the product and from which it collects data for report generation, auditing, and monitoring. Unmanaging a managed server will stop data gathering from that server and free up all licenses consumed by that server.

Since Exchange Reporter Plus is licensed based on the number of maliboxes, you may want to optimize your license usage by allocating it to important servers alone. So, unmanaging a server will help you to reclaim the licenses assigned to the mailboxes in that server and allocate the same to mailboxes in another important server.

Steps to manage and unmanage a server

  1. Go to the Settings tab on the top pane.
  2. Click on the Org/Tenant Settings option on the top-right corner.
  3. In the window that appears, you can view the list of all servers and tenants currently managed by Exchange Reporter Plus.
  4. Navigate between the Exchange Server, Exchange Online and Skype Server tabs to manage servers. Use the Manage All, Unmanage All options to manage and unmanage all the servers simulatenously.
  5. Click on the total count of managed mailbox to get the list of all managed servers. Press the icon below the actions column to unmanage a server
  6. To enable or manage a server again, you can directly click on the icon that appears under the same actions column.
  7. Click on Close.

  • You also have options to set the newly added server or tenant as the Default one. By doing so the product generates and displays the data for that particular server or tenant by default.

Note: To view or fetch the data from other servers you must switch to the required one available in the drop-down list.

  • You can Modify the given Exchange organization details any time using the Edit icon corresponding to it or even completely Delete it.
