Data classification
Classifying files containing sensitive data under various labels helps enforce appropriate levels of security. The Risk Analysis module can be used to automatically classify files containing high-value content based on their importance and vulnerability.
DataSecurity Plus allows users to define classification labels per their organization's requirements. However, most organizations use the below-listed four classification labels to tag their files:
- Public
- Internal
- Confidential
- Restricted
The conditions used to classify a file include policies matched, risk score of the file, number of rule match instances, etc.
Note: For the data classification profile to function, the service account or the user account used to configure the domain must possess Write permissions for the file.
To create a new data classification profile, follow these steps:
- Select Risk Analysis from the application drop-down.
- Go to Configuration > Data Discovery Settings > Classification Profile.
- Click the +Add Classification Profile button at the top-right corner.
- Choose the appropriate classification label from the drop-down if available, or create new labels by clicking +Add New Label and typing in the new label name.
- Under Criteria, choose the conditions necessary to classify the files based on their content.
- Click Save.
Note: The risk analysis module offers automated classification capabilities, whereas the Endpoint DLP module allows admins to classify files manually. A combination of both helps jumpstart content-aware protection across your configured data repositories.
Limitation:
Data classification currently supports only the file type categories listed below:
PDF, XLSX, DOC, DOCX, DOT, XLA, XLT, XLTM, XLS
If there's a specific file type you'd like to be supported, please email your request to support@datasecurityplus.com.
