You can migrate the email, calendar and contact information from on-premises email server to Exchange Online in many ways such as minimal hybrid method, cutover method, staged method and so on. In this fourth part of a six-part email migration from on-premises Exchange server to Exchange Online series, we will be discussing the minimal hybrid method.
You are recommended to use this method when you are migrating around 150 or more Exchange servers (Versions 2010, 2013 and 2016) over a course offew weeks. This method is also called as express migration. This process generally consists of 6 steps:
- Get your domain verified in Microsoft 365 organization.
- Log in to your Microsoft 365 account using global admin credentials and start the Exchange Hybrid Configuration Wizard.
- Synchronize the directory users and password information using the Azure AD Connect wizard.
- Post synchronization, provide Microsoft 365 licenses to every user so that they have a cloud-mailbox to which the data can be migrated.
- Start data migration process using the Data migration page of the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- Update DNS information and check if the MX records now point to Microsoft 365 account (and not to your on-premises mailboxes).
