Auto-update Templates

Auto-update templates plays a role when the templates are checked to update automatically when creating a package. When the auto update feature is enabled, the software package gets automatically updated and will be listed as a new package under Packages. Auto update templates feature is available for both Windows and Mac OS and is applicable for templates provided by Endpoint Central. It will be carried out after every sync, once everyday.

Enable Auto-update feature

It can be done in two ways:

  • If you want to enable the auto update feature while creating a package, navigate to Software Deployment > Templates > Choose a template > select Create package, a pop up will open. Select "update automatically" and choose create package.
  • If you want to enable the auto-udpdate after creating a package, Navigate to Software Deployment > Auto-update Templates > Enable auto-updates>Select a package>Add Software

Kindly note that, as you select the packages to enable auto-updates, the default auto-update policy will be enabled. To change it, make sure that you have created one.

Auto-update Policies

Auto Update Policies allow you to specify actions and decide what data should be retained when a software package is automatically updated. These policies apply to packages that have auto-update enabled, ensuring that updates are managed according to the rules defined within the policy.

Configure Auto-update Policy

  1. Navigate to Software Deployment > Auto-Update Templates > Policies > Create Policy.
  2. Define your policy settings to manage automatic updates for your packages effectively.

Assign Auto update Policy

Navigate to Software Deployment  > Auto-update Templates > Select a software > Assign Policy > Choose the policy to be updated > Update

Key Features of Auto Update Policies

Auto Update Policies helps to configure the following actions to be performed while updating the package:

  • Self-Service Portal Updates: If a package with auto-update is published to the self-service portal, a new version of the software is created, which needs to be installed by the user through the self-service portal.
  • User-Defined Templates: When auto-update is enabled, packages created from user-defined templates will be automatically updated to the latest version.
  • Note: The configuration used to deploy the package will not be replaced, but the package in the user defined templates will be replaced with the new version.

It also helps to retain data after package(s) update:

  • Pre/post deployment activities: Any pre/post deployment activities configured for the recent package will be retained in the updated version.
  • Package Description: When the package is updated in the self-service portal, the package description will remain unchanged.
