SQL Server Configuration Prerequisites

The machine that DataSecurity Plus has been installed on must be able to communicate with the Microsoft SQL server for the unencumbered functioning of the Risk Analysis module. Administrators must implement the following prerequisites to establish that communication.

Install DataSecurity Plus

DataSecurity Plus Risk Analysis module must be installed in the same network as the Microsoft SQL server.

Remove firewall restrictions

The MSSQL server's port must be able to transmit data to the DataSecurity Plus solution. Similarly, the port of the DataSecurity Plus solution must be configured to receive data from the MSSQL server. The DataSecurity Plus solution and MSSQL server cannot have firewall restrictions pertaining to each other.

Enable TCP/IP and Named Pipes protocols for the configured server instance.

TCP/IP and Named Pipes protocols of the configured server instance can be enabled by following these steps:

  • Navigate to the SQL Sever Configuration Manager application.
  • Click the SQL Server Network Configuration accordion and choose Protocols for the specific instance.
  • In the Protocols section, ensure that Named Pipes and TCP/IP are enabled.
Note: DataSecurity Plus Risk Analysis solution supports only Microsoft SQL.

Enable SQL Server Browser services

Enable SQL Server Browser services by following these steps:

  • Navigate to the SQL Server Configuration Manager application.
  • In the SQL Server Configuration Manager console pane, click SQL Server Services.
  • Right-click SQL Server Browser and select Properties.
  • In SQL Server Browser Properties, go to the Service tab and select Start Mode.
  • From the dropdown, choose Automatic and click Apply to apply the setting. Save the configuration by clicking OK.
  • Right-click SQL Server Browser and click start, to enable the browser service.

Allow SQL server instance remote connections

The target SQL server instance must allow remote connections:

  • Navigate to Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
  • Connect to a server by entering the Server type, Server name, the mode of Authentication, and user credentials.
  • Right-click the instance and choose Properties.
  • In Server Properties, go to the Connections tab.
  • Check the Allow remote connections to this server box and click OK.
