Agent Configuration

Agent-based scanning is supported for Windows, Linux, and Mac machines. Before proceeding with an agent-based scan, ME DesktopCentral has to be installed. Clickhere to learn more. The agent configuration options are as explained below:

Server IP Address - The IP Address of the computer where the Endpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) server is installed is displayed here.  The agents residing in the client computers communicate to the Endpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) server using this IP Address. Endpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) automatically detects the server IP Address whenever Endpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) Server is started. If you wish to automatically detect and save the IP Address, select the Automatically detect and save the IP Address change option.  You can also enter the DNS name of the Server.

Public IP Address - This IP Address is used for communicating with roaming user devices that are generally not in the corporate network. The Endpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) server should be reachable via a public IP Address*. Configure your external router to ensure that any requests sent to this public IP address are directed to the IP address of the computer in which the Endpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) server is installed.

  • Restrict Users from Uninstalling Agents from Control Panel - Selecting this option will ensure that users do not uninstall theEndpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) Agents from their computer.
  • Restricting Users from Stopping Endpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) Agent service - Choosing this option will restrict the users from manually stopping the Endpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) agent service.  However, the administrator can stop the Endpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) agent service by following the steps mentioned below:
    1. Click Tools on Endpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) server
    2. Choose System Manager
    3. Select the computer, on which you wanted to stop the service and click Manage
    4. Select the service "ManageEngine Endpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) - Agent", under the Services tab
    5. Under Actions, click stop to stop the service.

Enable Certificate-based authentication

To secure the agent server communication, you can enable certificate-based authentication.

Enable Agent Server Trusted Communication

Use this to enable a trusted communication between agent and server. Please note you need to have a third-party certificate in Endpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) to enable this.

Prompt for end-user confirmation to initiate Remote Control:

You can send users a message asking for permission to connect remotely to their computers. This option allows you to get confirmation from a user before connecting to their computer.

If a user is logged in, Endpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) sends a remote-connection confirmation request for the user's approval. A remote connection is established only if the user approves the request within 30 seconds. If the user does not approve the request within 30 seconds, the remote connection is not established automatically.

If a user is not logged in, the remote connection is established without waiting for confirmation from the user.

Notify end users about remote connection

Enable this to notify the end-users whenever a remote session is initiated on their machine. You can also enable/disable the user to disconnect the session.  This is applicable only on Windows machines.

Enable idle session settings

You can set a time limit to disconnect the session or disconnect and lock the system after a period of inactivity.
