Configuring new server details before migrating OpManager server, to enhance agent communication

When OpManager is migrated from one server to another, there is a possibility that the IP address and DNS name of the server might change. For proper communication with the agent, IP address and DNS name are mandatory and hence the new details have to be configured. However, if the old server's configuration is used for the newly migrated server too, then users can ignore the below steps.

NOTE: Kindly note that in case the IP address has changed but the DNS name hasn't, the agent will try to contact the server through the DNS name. Similarly, in case the DNS name has changed, but the IP address hasn't, the agent will try to contact the server via IP address. Upon successful communication, it will automatically update the new IP address or DNS name of the server in all agent-side registries that will be used for further communication.

Kindly follow the below steps to configure the complete new details.

  • Stop the OpManager service.
  • Add the "updateOpmAgentServerDetails=true" entry in the "system_properties.conf" file, under OpManager home\conf directory.
  • In the "AgentSettings.conf" file found under the "OpManager home\conf\OpManager" folder, add the new opmanager server details for Fields SERVER_NAME, SERVER_IPADDRESS and SERVER_PORT. If the proxy server settings need to be configured, update the proxy server details in the respective fields, and save the file.
  • Rename the logs and restart OpManager service.
  • Wait for a while once the service is up. The new details will now be updated to all the agents for further communication.

Kindly refer to this page in case you face any issues with communication.

To cross verify the new server details, carry out the following by taking remote control of any agent-installed machines:

  • Open the Registry editor.
  • Navigate to "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\ManageEngine\OpManagerAgent\ServerInfo" for 64 bit OS. In case of 32 bit OS, navigate to "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ManageEngine\OpManagerAgent\ServerInfo"
  • Verify whether the mentioned configuration details have been updated under the server details keys.

Users can now stop the OpManager in the old server and start migrate to the new one.

For special cases where you want to update server details for specific agents, kindly refer to this page for configuration steps.
